The suspect arrested for making false claims of a bomb attack during the Ramadan festive season has been remanded until May 4.

Police received a warning about possible bomb explosions in areas where Muslims gather on April 18 and 19. Until the fact was confirmed, the STF and Army were deployed in those areas.

In the wake of Ramadan, when a large Muslim population gather in Akurana and other areas, the Computer Crime Investigation Division of the Police conducted an investigation and discovered that the warning was false.

Continuing their investigation, the Computer Crime Investigation Division was able to track down the propagator of false information.

Accordingly, a 21-year-old, Izadeen Mohammed Sajith, a resident of Harispaththuwa in the Batagoda area was arrested last morning. Investigations revealed the suspect served as a mawlawi.

The suspect was produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate yesterday and was remanded until May 4.

The Computer Crime Investigation Division is conducting further investigations.
