Fasting, feasting and fellowship was seen all around the country during the holy month of Ramazan that came to an end yesterday.

Inter-faith iftar (breaking fast) programmes were held in many areas at mosques, temples and at community halls. An iftar at Galle Face Green saw hundreds, including tourists, seated to enjoy a hearty bowl of kanji (rice porridge) at sunset.

Shaamil, an organiser, said though they expected about 300 people at Galle Face, over 1,000 meals consisting dates, kanji and samosas were served.

The Noor Jumma Mosque at Bauddhaloka Mawatha saw many non-Muslims arriving to collect porridge served at the mosque daily during the holy month.

“We were able to feed many hungry mouths without considering their race or religion,” a moulavi said.
