D S Senanayake remembered in Colombo
View(s):Floral tribute was paid to the statue of the country’s first Prime Minister, Mahamanya D S Senanayake at Independence Square yesterday to mark the 75th Independence Day commemoration.
Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms, President’s Advocate Dr Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe and former Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Sri Lankabhimanya Karu Jayasuriya, together with the Mayor of Colombo Mrs Rosy Senanayake, Presidential Adviser Mr Ruwan Wijewardene and former Cabinet Minister Mr Rukman Senanayake paid floral tributes. Kandy Mayor Kesera Senanayake garlanded the statue of D S Senanayake,which has stood at the Maha Maluwa, Kandy since 1950, during celebrations to mark independence yesterday.
A small distinguished gathering of invitees were present to offer bouquets of flowers, including Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela, Basnayake Nilame of Maha Vishnu Devale Mahen Ratwatte, Basnayake Nilame of Paththini Devale Lal Hemantha Bandara Herath, Basnayake Nilame of Kataragama Devale and Basnayake Nilame of Natha Devale .
Jaya Mangala Gatha were recited by Hemmali Balika Vidyalaya.
