Case dismissed: Ven. Ananda Thera withdraws plaint
View(s):The Colombo District Court recently dismissed the case filed by Public Service United Nurses Union president, Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thera, against Ven. Pathberiye Wimalagnana Thera, demanding Rs. 100 million compensation for tarnishing his reputation and the distress caused to him.
When the case was taken up before Colombo District Court Judge Purnima Paranagama, a counsel appearing for Ven. Ananda Thera informed the Judge that he did not intend to pursue the case further due to his ill health and old age.
Accordingly, the Judge ordered that the case be dismissed, subject to fees.
Ven. Ananda Thera had filed the case claiming that the statements made by Ven. Wimalagnana Thera to national newspapers in and around February 2016 had caused damage to his reputation.
