Atheeq becomes the ‘Best Allround Student’ at Zahira for 2021

Atheeq Ur Rahman receives the trophy from Principal Trizvii Marikkar
M.R. Atheeq Ur Rahman of Zahira College was awarded the ‘Best Allround Student 2021’ following his excellent performances in academics, sports and extracurricular activities at the school’s annual awards ceremony held at the Ghaffoor Hall.
Atheeq passed his G.C.E. Ordinary Level and Advance Level examinations with fine colours. He obtained nine ‘A’ passes in the O/L exam and went further to claim three ‘A’ passes in the A/L exam to gain admission to the Management Faculty of University of Kelaniya.
He took up rifle shooting as a sport and excelled with fine colours. He captained the Zahira shooting team in 2021 and 2022 and represented Sri Lanka at the15th Asian Airgun Championship in Daegu, South Korea in 2022. This helped him win the Emerging Sportsman of the Year award at the school’s colours night in 2022.
He also became the best athlete in shooting twice in 2018 and 2022 at the college colours night. Atheeq won a silver medal at the Navy Open Championship in 2020 and then won three silver medals and one bronze medal at the All-Island Shooting Championship organised by the National Shooting Sports Federation of Sri Lanka.
Atheeq was also the head prefect of the school in 2021 and was the Prime Minister of Student Parliament the same year. He also became the best delegate at the International Model United Nations 2020. In addition he was at the helm of English Debate Club and Art Circle and had hold various positions in several other clubs and societies such as the Gravel Club and Model United Nations.
