SLT-Mobitel unified organisation structure comes into force this year

With the dawn of 2023, Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) has embarked on a major initiative of SLT-Mobitel unification to steamline operations completely with the establishment of the unified organisation structure, according to a SLT Group CEO’s joint circular.

As the group transforms from a ‘Telco’ to a ‘Techco’, an aligned organisation structure is required to achieve operational and business efficiencies, the joint circular signed by Group CEO Lalith Seneviratne, CEO SLT Janaka R. Abeysinghe and Mobitel CEO Chandika Vitharena said.

Reporting structures of Sri Lanka Telecom (Services) Ltd, SLT Digital Info Service (Pvt) Ltd, Talentfort (Pvt) Ltd and SLT Vision Com (Pvt) Ltd will remain unchanged, the circular added.

SLT and SLT Mobitel unveiled their unified brand identity on January 1, 2021 but there was no integrated operational structure up to now, an SLT official said.

SLT-MOBITEL has leveraged integrated technologies unlocking access to multi-platform telecom applications and solutions, offering customers a new world of telecom and lifestyle-impacting experiences under the unification set up, he disclosed.

The two anchor companies in the group, SLT and Mobitel hold an important position to support the foundation of the group.

It will now further enhance collaboration under one brand and provide customer-first innovative services as the industry leader in providing a great customer experience.

However a SLT trade union leader noted that promotions, transfers, recruitments will become problematic as the two entities were following different procedures and standards as well as qualifications and experience of the staff differ.

He said that it is premature to comment on the outcome of the new initiative, but by judging the progress of  previously activated strategic and organisation restructure plans, it cannot bring any tangible results as this administration structure may create conflict in unified operations.

SLT has launched a unified restructuring process without considering human resources management, present financial situation and transparency of the company, several SLT trade unions alleged.

This new decision has been taken without considering the new SLT Group Organisation Structure which was developed by consolidating Finance, Human Resources, Legal, and IT/Cyber security functions as group functions, they added.
