Leading lawyer and renowned President’s Counsel Ronald Chithranjan Perera has taken over the reins as the Chairman of the Bank of Ceylon (BOC) on the directions of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

He succeeds former Chairman Kanchana Ratwatte.

He held the same position from January 2015 until November 2019 and was instrumental in shaping BOC as a major player in the financial sector.

Mr. Perera was earlier appointed as the Chairman of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation (SLIC).

When contacted soon after his new appointment, Mr. Perera told the Business Times that the country is facing a severe economic downturn at present and as the leading state bank, the BOC has a crucial role to play.

The BOC has been striving towards achieving this task fulfilling financial needs of customers while maintaining itself as the largest contributor to the national economy in many ways, he added. Mr. Perera is an LLB graduate of the University of Colombo and holds an LLM in International Trade Law from Northumbria University, and an old boy of St Joseph’s College, Colombo.
