The Department said low level atmospheric disturbances were possible and showers could occur occasionally in the northern, eastern, north-central and north-western provinces and in some instances there could be downpours above 100mm.

Blustery winds with a wind speed of 40-50 kmph could occur at times over the northern, eastern, north-western and sabaragamuwa provinces as well as in district of Galle and Matara.

The wet spell may continue into the next week, the Department said.

Naval and fishing communities have been cautioned about venturing into deep and shallow sea areas off the coast stretching from Mannar to Pottuvil  and Kankasanturai, Trincomalee and Batticaloa until further notice.
