Thalangama Police have opened an investigation into complaints against a couple who offered jobs at the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) for money.

They claimed to have connections with top CEB officials.

The couple was arrested by Thalangama Police on Friday, on allegations of fraud.

A complaint was recently lodged by a woman who had deposited Rs. 768,300 in the bank account of the woman who was arrested.

The two women had spoken over the phone a few times, from March onwards.

The suspects had claimed to know a senior official at the CEB, and had promised the complainant a job there, if they were paid a sum of money. But as the job was not offered, the woman had complained to the Police.    Thalangama Police had received eight complaints about the same couple, which were redirected to the respective area Police stations.

Police officers expected more complaints to be lodged.
