‘SICASH 2022’ – Annual SLIIT Research Conference showcases University’s contribution to cutting-edge research and intellectual advancement
View(s):The ‘SLIIT International Conference on Advancements in Sciences & Humanities – SICASH 2022 was hosted by the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences, SLIIT for the third consecutive year recently, showcasing the University’s contribution to cutting-edge research and intellectual advancement.
The Conference, held as a virtual event, under the theme ‘Creating Innovative Solutions through Research’, provided an important platform for attendees to discover insights into possible solutions regarding prevailing contemporary issues, as perceived through a variety of disciplinary lenses, and also engage in thoughtful discussions.
SICASH 2022 witnessed a significant and impressive number of participants from students and academics, representing SLIIT and external institutes. Additionally, the heightened interest of resource personnel including judges, reviewers, etc., who readily contributed and engaged with the event aptly demonstrates the recognition the Conference has gained over the years, especially despite the aftermath of the pandemic and prevailing socio-economic crisis.
The Conference brought together diverse opinions on key multidisciplinary research tracks in the areas of Natural Sciences, Nursing and Health Sciences, Law, Psychology, Education, English Language and Literature, and Mathematics and Statistics. 67 papers from local and overseas scholars were presented at the Conference, having been selected after rigorous screening through double-blind peer reviews by experts, ensuring their higher quality and relevance.
Prof. Katherine B. Ensor, President, American Statistical Association Noah G. Harding Professor of Statistics Director, Center for Computational Finance and Economics, Rice University Houston, delivered the keynote address on ‘Computational Finance: Correlation, Volatility, and Markets’
Dr. Nilanga Abeysinghe, Co-Chair, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Humanities & Sciences stated, “Despite challenges, we have been able to organise the Conference for the third consecutive year, and I thank all the participants as well as the team from SLIIT for their contribution. SICASH 2022 has been beneficial in bringing SLIIT into the limelight showcasing strong recognition, growth, and expansion in the Faculties of Social Sciences and Humanities. Importantly, we have been successful in publishing our second ‘SLIIT Journal of Humanities & Sciences’ (SJHS) and aim to release the next journal shortly. The Conference and the Journal provide a vital academic forum, promote research, and also present an avenue for researchers to present their work, demonstrating SLIIT’s strong research culture and ability to gain the attention of academics, researchers, universities, and schools.”
Dr. Virajith Gamage, Co-Chair, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Humanities & Sciences added, “In comparison to the first and second conferences organized previously, this year’s SICASH 2022 gained an impressive number of students and academics, both representing SLIIT and external participants indicating the acknowledgment and recognition the Conference has gained to-date. Moreover, SICASH 2022, has also brought to the fore the ability of researchers, academics, and even novice presenters to engage in scientific work or social research and natural sciences amidst the chaos and prevailing crisis that we are facing continuously.”
Dr. Malitha Wijesundara and the General Chair, Dean – Faculty of Humanities and Sciences added,“SICASH has gained recognition for providing a rigorous academic environment and hands-on learning experience for a wide range of research tracks. This year’s SICASH 2022 provided a deeper perspective and frontline research on ‘Creating Innovative Solutions through Research’ with regard to the prevailing socio-economic challenges. It is envisaged that the intellectual discourse will result in future collaborations between universities, research institutions, and industry both locally and internationally. Finally, I would like to congratulate the organizing committee for their tremendous efforts in organizing the conference.”
