67% of Gem-A Graduates studied gemmology for professional development

In Sri Lanka, the complete course in Gemmology of Gem-A is conducted at the Allied Gemmological Institute & Laboratory, Colombo, which has to be completed in two units- Foundation and the Diploma levels. Enrolment of new applicants for the 2021 February – 2021 June Foundation and for those qualified to register for the Diploma in Gemmology  programme is open now until  30th of January, 2021. New classes will be starting in the 2nd week of February, 2021 to prepare for the 2021 June examinations.

Today Allied Gemmological Institute & Laboratory is the only ATC of Gem-A in Sri Lanka to conduct the Foundation and Diploma Courses in Gemmology of Gem-A . These two courses in gemmology are conducted in accordance with the regulations of the ofqual – the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation which regulates qualifications, examinations and assessments in England.

Regulated under ofqual confirms,

  • To rely and have confidence in the integrity and quality of qualification.
  • To be sure that qualification reliably indicates the knowledge, the skills and understanding that students will demonstrate.
  • To be sure that the assessments and examinations will show that students have achieved.

Graduating from Gem-A with Diploma in Gemmology of Gem-A and obtaining FGA benefits any one to find employment related to gemstone industry and trade anywhere in the world.

With the new development plans by the National Gem & Jewellery Authority, specially by the construction of the proposed Gem Tower in Ratnapura,  and to modernize the Gem & Jewellary industry in Sri Lanka to meet the international standards, AGIL is capable to train students to meet the demand for fully qualified gemmologts with FGA qualification, which is considered as the highest qualification worldwide.

Student group of the 2019 – 2020 Session-2

Subsequent to the cancellation of the 2020 January – 2010 June teaching progammes and the postponement of the scheduled 2020 June examination due to COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 July to 2021 January teaching programmes were successfully completed for the students at the AGIL to sit for the 2021 January  examinations.

Gem-A has commenced to enroll new students for the 2021 February – 2021 June teaching programmes.

Schedule of the teaching programmes at the AGIL for this session are as follows

Foundation Course in Gemmology of Gem-A

from 13th February, 2021 upto 2nd week of June, 2021

Theory and Practical training classes on every Saturday from 8.30 am to 2.00 pm, with additional classes in the month of May, to complete the required number of guided teaching hours.

Diploma  Course in Gemmology of Gem-A

- Start from 10th February, 2021 upto 2nd week of June, 2021. Theory classes on every Wednesday from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm. Practical training classes on every Thursday from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm

Registration for intake in open till 30th January, 2021, for the applicants to receive the study pack from Gem-A, UK before commencement of the teaching programmes.

A new Gem Basics Course by AGIL – Gem Basics to teach basics of gemmology by theoretical and practical understanding, aimed mainly for those who are interested in learning about gemstones. It has also been planned as the doorstep to enter into the Foundation Course in Gemmology and continue to complete the Diploma in Gemmology of Gem-A at this institute.

Gem Basics Course of AGIL  Schedule:

Start from 3rd week of February, 2021. Classes are held every Saturday from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm for 3 months.
