SLUSA celebrates International Day of University Sport

The International Day of University Sport (IDUS) proclaimed by UNESCO was celebrated on a grand scale at the University of Kelaniya last Sunday.
This is the first time ever Sri Lanka marked IDUS.
The event was organised by Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association (SLUSA) and Department of Physical Education and Sports, University of Kelaniya.
UGC (University Grants Commission) Vice President, Senior Professor Mrs Janitha A. Liyanage participated as the chief guest. Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Senior Professor Mrs Nilanthi de Silva participated as the special guest.

President of SLUSA Dr Chandrakantha Mahendranadan and Directors of Physical Education, Physical Education Instructors, Chairmen of University Sports Advisory Boards, and Student representatives participated in this event.
The aim of celebrating this day is to create links between universities and their local communities with sport, physical activity and healthy living. Also this is a great opportunity to share knowledge on key issues relating to the development of sport and the University Sports Movement worldwide. Also to improve awareness of the importance of sport.
