A Shammugeshwaran and Wathsala Herath emerged victories at the 55th Sri Lanka Army Road Race held in Colombo yesterday.

Shammugeshwaran from the Artillery Regiment clocked 1:10.16 minutes to clinch the men’s title while Wathsala of 7th Regiment recorded a time of 1:25.15 minutes to pocket the women’s title.

The event completed by 125 long distant runners (111 male and 14 female) was the first athletics event to be conducted following the easing of lock-down restrictions forced by the COVID 19 pandemic.

Men’s Overall Championship was won by Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment accumulating 55 points while Sinha Regiment became the runners-up in the men’s category. Women’s Overall Championships was bagged by Sri Lanka Army Women’s Force for collecting 18 points. Sri Lanka Army’s Service Regiment was awarded with Emerging Regiment during the 55th edition of the Road Race.

The event was organized by Sri Lanka Army Athletics Association where Army Commander Shavendra Silva graced the occasion as the chief-guest.
