SLUSA to mark International Day of University Sport in Kelaniya
View(s):The International Day of University Sport (IDUS) proclaimed by UNESCO will be celebrated for the first time today at the University of Kelaniya.
It has been organised by the Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association (SLUSA), who have lined up several activities from 8.30am to 3.00pm.
The chief guest at the event will be Senior Professor Janitha A. Liyanage, Vice Chairperson, University Grants Commission. The Guest of Honour will be Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, Vice Chancellor, University of Kelaniya.
“We have organised several workshops, a panel discussion and an inter-university quiz competition to mark the occasion,” said Dr. Chandrakantha Mahendranathan, President of SLUSA.
The keynote speaker will be Professor Tilak P.D. Gamage, a former President of SLUSA and Senior Professor in Limnology and Water Technology who has obtained his PhD from Saitama University Japan in Ecological Engineering.
Among the panelists is Senior Professor Sudath R.D. Kalingamudali, Senior Professor – Department of Physics and Electronics, University of Kelaniya.
“Sports Advisory Board chairpersons, Directors of Physical Education, Instructors of Physical Education and Student Representatives of SLUSA member universities are expected to participate in this event,” said Rohini Anthony Puvanasingam, Secretary General of SLUSA.
Universities from Colombo, Peradeniya, Kelaniya, Sri Jayawardenapura, Moratuwa, Ruhuna, Jaffna, Eastern, Sabaragamuwa, Wayamba, Uva Wellassa, South Eastern, The Open, University of the Visual and Performing Art and Rajarata are expected to take part.
