Rain ‘declares’ Fairfirst Insurance, HNB Joint Champs
View(s):Last year’s winner, Fairfirst Insurance (Fairfirst) and runners-up, Hatton National Bank (HNB) were declared joint winners of the MCA-Maliban Masters Cricket ’6s’ 2019 concluded at the MCA Grounds last Sunday.
Rain played a bigger part in the tournament with the final too, abandoned due to rain and bad light. This year’s tournament had 18 teams on a league basis at the MCA and Thurstan College Grounds.
In the 1st semifinal between HNB and Associated Motorways Ltd (AMW). played at the Thurstan Grounds, the winner was decided on a ‘Ball Out’ basis. The 2nd semifinal between Fairfirst and John Keells Holdings (JKH) at the MCA Grounds was played on a 4 balls per over basis, due to bad light.
Batting first JKH scored 25/1 off 5 overs. In reply, Fairfirst reached the victory target in 3.3 overs for the loss of 1 wicket.
The finals were not played due to adverse weather conditions and both teams agreed to be Joint Champs without going out for a ‘Ball Out’.
