Butterfly Conservation Society holds annual race

The annual race organized by Butterfly Conservation Society of Sri Lanka (BCSSL) was held earlier this month for the 4th consecutive time, at Seethawaka Wet Zone Botanic Gardens, Avissawella.It is an eagerly anticipated events of the BCSSL, organised with the sole intention of promoting butterfly and dragonfly watching, while promoting public engagement and awareness in Nature conservation.

Undergraduates and schoolchildren, though not professional lepidopterists or trained entomologists, but casual observers, along with some hardcore enthusiasts, competed under Open and School/University categories. This year had an overwhelming response with about 80 participants.

Team YBA were the winners of the contest by recording the highest cumulative number of butterfly and dragonfly species, while Team Odonoptera were runners-up.
