Kingswood clinches Under-20 Rugby Sevens Championships

Kingswood College Kandy clinched the Under-20 Rugby 7s Championship of the All-Island Schools Games, which was conducted last weekend at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy. Kingswood beat Moratu Vidyalaya by 38-17 to win the championship after scoring from six tries and four conversions against the three tries and a conversion.

Kingswood beat Mahanama College 29-5 in the first semi-final with a tally of five tries and two conversions while Moratu Vidyalaya overcame St. Sylvester’s College Kandy by 24-19 in the second semi-final after a thriller. Moratu Vidyalaya scored from four tries and two conversions while St. Sylvester’s scored from three tries and two conversions.

The Third Place Playoff was won by St. Sylvester’s, who beat Mahanama by 26-14. The home team scored from four tries and three conversions while the losers scored from two converted tries. Earlier in the quarter-finals Mahanama beat Maliyadeva College 26-7, Kingswood beat Dharmapala College 34-5, St. Sylvester’s beat Richmond College 28-7, Moratu Vidyalaya beat Sarasavi Uyana MV 33-7.

Sachintha Senevirathna of the victorious Kingswood College was named the Best Player of the Tournament. A total of 24 teams were drafted for the competition in the two-day event conducted by the Ministry of Education.
