The Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) last week charged that Rohingya refugee children detained at the Boosa camp have been denied their right to Education.
CTU Gen.Sec. Joseph Stalin said there were 6 children of school-going age among the 31 Rohingyas in detention.

“These children who were residing in the suburbs of Colombo and attending schools in the vicinity, have now been moved to the Boosa camp, where there are no schools for the children,” he said. The CTU said that, under the United Nations Draft Convention on the Rights of the Child, contracted States have to extend the same treatment accorded to locals, with respect to elementary Education, “It is a Fundamental Right of a Child,” he said.

Mr Stalin said the CTU has written to President Maithripala Sirirsena and to the Human Rights Commission regarding the violation of the Rights of the children. – CC
