“Haritha Bimak Suwabara Hetak” organized by Richmond College, OBA and SDS was held in the College premises from Sept.21-23
The history of the farm in Richmond College goes back more than 9 decades. In 1964, former Principal D.G. Welikala established it as a farm with the necessary features.

To inculcate the habit of farming and gardening in students, the Richmond College OBA intends to conduct a Home Gardening competition among the schools in the Southern Province (SP), with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 from the College OBA.

The exhibition was free for schoolchildren and nearly 10,000 students visited the exhibition. The farm was named “D.G. Welikala Memorial Farm”. Ministers Gayantha Karunathilaka and Vajira Abeywardhana, MP Wijepala Hettiarachchi, SP Governor Dr Hemakumara Nanayakkara, SP Minister U.D.G. Ariyathilaka, Education Ministry Secretary Sunil Hettiarachchi and other distinguished invitees visited the exhibition.

There were many Govt, Public and Private sector stalls along with an Educational Fair to provide Career Guidance to students were key features at the exhibition. Entertainment in the form of Street Dramas and Folk Songs were presented by the College students during the day, and a Cultural show from 6.30 pm-9 pm every evening.

The exhibition was organized under the supervision of College Principal Sampath Weragoda.
