The Education Ministry has interdicted the Principal of Poramadulla National School in Hanguranketha, for enrolling students in violation of Ministry instructions, and failing to report to work despite his transfer to the Provincial Education office.

Ministry Secretary Upali Marasinghe said the Ministry had received a number of complaints on admitting outside students to Grade 6, with most having very low marks at the Grade 5 scholarship exam.

“We were receiving complaints from parents. We informed the Principal not to enrol more students. However, he disregarded repeated instructions by the Education Ministry, while an Additional Secretary sent a letter instructing him to stop enrollments,” he said.
Mr Marasinghe said that when the Principal was found enrolling more students to the school, the Ministry transferred him to the office of the Provincial Director of Education.

“However, we were told that he is still working at the school and not reporting to work at the Provincial Director’s office. A team of officers from the Ministry was sent to investigate,” he said.

The former Principal was interdicted by the Public Service Commission for ignoring instructions by the Education Ministry. An audit team from the Education Ministry is looking into the monies obtained by the former for admitting students to the national school.
