Japan offers Higher Education MEXT Scholarships Programme for 2016

The Japanese Government is offering Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Technology scholarship opportunities to Sri Lankan students under its (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarships Programme 2016.

Graduate Degrees are offered for Science (Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry), Electrical & Electronics (Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Information Engineering), Mechanics (Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture), Civil Engineering & Architecture (Civil Engineering, Architecture, Environmental Engineering), Chemical Studies (Applied Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry & Textile Engineering) and in Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Maritime Engineering and Biotechnology.

Applicants for Undergraduate scholarships should be born between April 2, 1994 and April 1, 1999, have passed the GCE A/L exam, and must be willing to learn the Japanese language within one year.

Scholarships will also be awarded to study at a Japanese College of Technology next year.

Fields of study will be Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Information, Communication & Network Engineering, Materials Engineering, Architecture, Civil Engineering and Maritime Engineering.

Scholarship holders will be granted 117,000 yen per month (Rs 130,000), Economy class air ticket and fees for entrance exams, matriculation and tuition.

Those born on or after April 2, 1981, possessing a Bachelor’s Degree with a Second Class Lower Division or above in the relevant field of study, from a recognized university, with a relevant Master’s Degree and permanently employed in a Ministry/Department/University/State Sector or Private Sector Institution, are eligible to apply for the Postgraduate scholarships.

A monthly allowance of 143,000 yen per month for Research students, 144,000 yen per month for a Master or a professional Degree programme and 145,000 yen per month for a Doctoral programme is provided to students, apart from return airfare to Japan and back on completion of studies, and approved tuition and exam fees.
