`93 champs to be felicitated

A felicitation ceremony, organised by Matale Thomians ’89 Cricket Wing, to honour the members of St. Thomas’ College Matale first XI cricket team, who became All-Island Schools Division II Champions in 1993 to clinch the ‘Coca Cola Bottlers Trophy’, will be held at Hotel Grand City in Matale today at 6.00pm.

The team led by Charith Senanayake outplayed Debarawewa Central Tissamaharama by 8 wickets in the final and they still stand tall as a landmark in the college cricket history being the only team to win a title for the school so far.

The members of the cricket team (1993) to be felicitated: Charith Senanayake, Ajantha Gamage, Ananda Gamage, N. Herath, D.C. Silva, V.K. Karunaratne, C.D. Thotagamuwa, Neville Kanakaratne, Udayanga Kodituwakku, Tharaka Jayaratne, Asanka Abeykoon, Nalaka Ratnayake, Janath Gnanasundara, Deshakthi Nanayakkara, Samantha Kusumsiri, B. Amaratunga (Coach) and A.V. Dissanayake (MIC).

Kanchana Godakumbura, the Assistant Superintendent of Police in Matale will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest with the Principal Dampiya Wanasinghe and two Presidents of Matale and Colombo branches of the OBA as guests of honour.

Prior to the Ceremony an exhibition Twenty20 cricket fixture between ’93 team led by Charith Senanayake and ’89 team led by Ravi Punchihewa will be played at Bernard Aluvihare Stadium in Matale.
