Jathika Bala Sena thera to be discharged from hospital

United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Mahiyangana Pradeshiya Sabha member Ven. Watareka Vijitha Thera who was found bound and injured near the Hirana bridge in Panadura, will be discharged within a day or two, the Colombo National Hospital said.

Hospital Director Dr. Anil Jaasinghe told the Sunday Times, the thera has recovered from his injuries.

“The thera is fit to be discharged early this week and has recovered from bruises and injuries,” Dr. Jaasinghe said.

Ven. Watareka Vijitha Thera, the Convener of the Jathika Bala Sena has come under heavy criticism from the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) for attending an inter-faith press conference in April, along with Muslim priests at the Nippon Hotel in Colombo 2.

Ven. Vijitha Thera lodged a complaint at the Compannaweediya Police Station alleging threats to his life and also made several requests including one to the President. Police protection was given to the Thera, but two weeks ago, police protection was withdrawn.
The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) has recorded statements from the thera at the hospital.
