‘Ini Avan’ wins major SIGNIS award

Asoka Handagama’s ‘Ini Avan’ won major awards including the Best film, the Best Direction and the Best Screenplay at the 37th SIGNIS Salutation Cinema Awards ceremony last week.  Sugath Samarakone who directed ‘Vijeya-Kuweni’ shared the Best Direction award while ‘Kusa Paba’ and ‘Karma’ were among the award winners.

Kamal Addaraarachchi (Colour) and Dulani Anuradha (Vijaya Kuweni) were awarded with the Most Creative Actor and Actress awards.  Chandani Seneviratne was adjudged the Most Creative Supporting actress for her role in ‘Kusa Paba’ while Raja Ganeshan won the most creative supporting actor’s award for his role in ‘Ini Avan’.

Lakshman Joseph de Saram and Rohana Weerasinghe won the awards for Creative Music Direction for ‘Maatha’ and ‘Kusa Paba’ respectively.  The SIGNIS International awards were presented to four veterans Prem Dissanayake, Ananda S. Wijayasiri and Camillus Perera and Daya Shantha Silva.

This year’s Cyril B. Perera Memorial Award for cinema journalism was awarded to Daily Mirror film writer Ramesh Uvais.
The Guest of Honour of the event was Badulla Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Winston S. Fernando.
