Tech in the Classroom: AVer TabCam

View(s):

What is it? Here’s a mountable camera that allows the user to wirelessly stream video of textbooks, artifacts, science experiments or even student presentations, and then displays them live through the iPad.

How does it work? The Wireless TabCam can be positioned virtually anywhere in the classroom or school, since it communicates with the iPad over the school’s wireless network. Each TabCam is bound specifically to each iPad, so there is no interference from other TabCams on the same network. A TabCam can even be positioned in another room while the teacher displays the live content through the iPad in his/her own classroom.

Users also can add notes, digital ink, highlights and objects directly to the live video. In addition, educators can record anything and everything they create and present during their lessons.

How hard is it to use? Not very. It does require the integration of the TabCam app, which can be found in the App Store for free. Once the app is installed, however, it is merely a matter of connecting the camera to the network and launching the app on the iPad.

How well does it work? As well as advertised. While users can expect to get a solid connection at a reasonable distance, there will be some fluctuation in terms of how far users can separate the camera from the iPad.

How do I use it in the classroom? For flipped, blended or traditional lessons, the TabCam adds a level of student engagement and educator freedom.- .educationworld.com
