Old Boys are ready to donate a Pool to Kalutara Holy Cross College

Holy Cross College is a leading school in the district of Kalutara, rendering yeomen service in the field of education for a period of well over 110 years. During this period it has served thousands of students and has produced a large number of eminent personalities in all spheres of society. Presently there is a student population of well over 2500 with a staff of 150 teachers while achieving outstanding performance in Education, Sports and all other extra-curricular activities.

Present office bearers of the old boys’ union of the Holy Cross College, decided to construct a state of the art swimming pool for the College with the intention of uplifting the standards of the students at a cost of Rs 25 million. The proposed swimming pool complex consists of 6 lane, 25 m long pool, changing rooms and the viewing gallery. It is proposed to construct the swimming pool at a prominent site facing to the Colombo – Galle Road and adjacent to the historic Holy Cross church located in the hillock. The swimmers will be able to enjoy the view of the lagoon and the estuary mouth of Kalu Ganga which are situated parallel to the Galle road.

To raise the required funds for the proposed project, old boys’ union has organized a massive College walk on 20th July 2013 under the theme of “Let’s Walk for Swim”. Organizers have already made the arrangements to gather old boys of the school who have passed out during the last 40 years.

On the same day night they have, organized a gigantic musical night with “Marians” and popular artists. According to the organizing committee, it is expected well over 15,000 crowd for both events on the day. According to the project director Mr. Mahendra Perera, significant number of Sri Lankan blue chip companies have already given their consent to sponsor the both events.

Apart from the above two events, organizing committee together with the present school management has started a donation campaign from the old boys and well-wishers. On the very first day of the donation campaign, it received more than 3.25 million donations within 30 minutes.

Also they have launched the official website of the old boys’ union on 5th of May at a grand ceremony held on the College auditorium with the presence of large number of old boys and well-wishers. Mr. Aruna Fernando, old boy of Holy Cross College, former President of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), has participated in this occasion as the chief guest. A car sticker specially designed as a souvenir to the event was also released on the same day and the first car sticker was presented to Mrs. Indrani Fernando, Managing Director of New Philips Hospitals Kalutara by Rev. Fr. Dr. Camillus Fernando, present rector of the Holy Cross College, Kalutara.
