Road death triggers protest in Badulla

An accident that resulted in the death of 30-year-old M. Ranjan Bandara, a father of one, led to a tense situation in the Badulla area with residents blocking the Badulla-Bandarawela road and demanding clear markings for pedestrian crossings.
Mr. Bandara who was seriously injured when he was knocked down by a speeding van, died at the Intensive Care Unit of the Badulla hospital on Wednesday.

The residents were angry that the vehicle involved in the accident had been released without a proper investigation. They also said that there were no proper pedestrian crossing markings.

The demonstrators set tires ablaze and the situation became tense after police attempted to douse the fire and disperse the crowd.
Among those injured in the incident was the HQI Badulla.
