Sri Lanka bought tickets for the ongoing Olympic Games in London to the tune of Rs. 7 million, but who got the tickets is a mystery.

The Sunday Times learns that the National Olympic Committee had given complimentary tickets to more than 30 people.
But there were hardly any Sri Lankans on the stands, when Lankans were competing.

However NOC President Hemasiri Fernando said Sri Lanka purchased tickets to the value of Rs. 7 million and had “sold” the tickets.

On Friday, he said he was looking for the file to get the names, but yesterday also he said the information was not available.
Mr. Fernando said he could not remember the number of tickets purchased.

The prices of the tickets range from 35 pounds to 200 pounds depending on the event and the venue.
Meanwhile, a top track and field official said two former officials were offered complementary tickets from the Sports Ministry, but no tickets were offered to the current officials.“We did not even raise the issue, as it is a mafia that is operating,” he said.
