Thurstan by two wickets


A combined team effort steered Thurstan to a thrilling 2-wicket win against S. Thomas’ in their Inter-School Under-17 Division I cricket match played at Thurstan College ground. S. Thomas’ posted 239 runs for the loss of five wickets after M.N. Nanayakkara and T.M. Sumanasiri did much of the bulk scoring. Nanayakkara hammered a stylish 116 and Sumanasiri hit an unbeaten 73.

But Thurstan who lost most of their top batsmen at regular intervals managed to see the winning post with a delivery to spare. Raveesha Lokuge who took two scalps retuned to compile an unbeaten 43 while Minhaj Jaleel (26), Sajith Gunathilleke (26), Arjun Gunawardena (24) and Kavindu Kulasekara (33) chipped in with notable knocks.
