Science through by a point

Giant killers Science gained back their winning ways by edging out unpredictable Vidyartha by a slender 23-22 in their Under-20 Schools League Division I A rugby match played at Mt. Lavinia yesterday. The tensely contested battle took a twist when Science began to dominate from the first whistle and holding a 15-3 lead at half time.

However gritty Vidyartha fought back to impose a major scare on the home side as they went on score 19 points during the second half while missing a few vital opportunities to further bolster their tally. Eventually Science managed to hold the grip and earn a narrow win as time ran off for the Tigers. Prop Chethiya Sandun, wingers Krishantha Jayanath and Hashan Maduranga scored a try each for Science while fly half Sahan Iduranga converted a try and two penalties. No.8 Jason Dissanaike, scored twice for Vidyartha followed by the third from winger Samitha Salinda. Scrumhalf Chamath Fernando converted two tries and a penalty.
