Sambuddhatva Jayanthi sees a reawakening of Buddhism

Sambuddhatva Jayanthi Year commemorating the 2600th anniversary of the Enlightenment of the Buddha ends on Vesak full moon poya – May 5. The year has seen a resurgence of Buddhism with a closer relationship between the temple and the village, with neglected temples being renovated and monks actively engaged in an effort to build a better society.

 

Scout centenary gets Rs. 2 coin

The Central Bank has issued a commemorative coin for the centenary of Scouting in Sri Lanka. Designed by the Sri Lanka Scout Association, the Rs. 2 coin was struck by the Royal Mint to the current standard of nickel-plated steel, with a diameter of 28.5mm and weight of seven grams.
