Renuka Amarasinghe joins the Sports Ministry team

Mrs. Renuka P.R. Amarasinghe, Class one Special Grade officer of Sri Lanka Administrative Service has assumed duties as the new Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Sports. She is a past pupil of Vishaka Vidyalaya, Colombo 5 and also Graduated with a Bachelor of Art (Hons.) degree from the University of Colombo in 1984. At present she is in the process of completing the final LLB examination.

Mrs. Renuka P.R. Amarasinghe

Mrs. Amarasinghe stepped on to the government service as a humble school teacher following the footsteps of her mentors - father and brother, at Mundalama Sinhala School in a remote area. She has the distinction of being qualified in to the Local Government Administrative Service in 1987 and Sri Lanka Administrative Service in 1990 and was promoted to Class one of SLAS in the year 2000.

She had the privilege as a SLAS Class one officer to serve as a Senior Assistant Secretary at the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Nation Building and the Ministry of Economic Development. She had the honour to be elevated in to SLAS Class one Special Grade this year with effect from July 01, 2008.

Mrs. Amarasinghe is the youngest daughter of late Mr. Elwin Amarasinghe (Ministry of Fisheries) and late Mrs. Violet Amarasinghe. She is also the younger sister of Mr. Saman Amarasinghe, a skilled and veteran officer in the field of Sports Administration, who had served as Secretary General, Sri Lanka School Sports Council in the Ministry of Education, Chairman, National Sports Council of the Ministry of Sports and National Focal Person of the International Year of Sport and Physical Education in the United Nations.
