Tamil Union in line to secure their second win

Overnight rain interrupted the second day’s proceedings of the Premier Tier ‘A’ cricket encounters due to delayed starts in most games. But Tamil Union was on top against Bloomfield at Reid Avenue and when play ended on day two they have put themselves in a strong position to secure their second outright win of the tournament.

Tamil Union resuming their inning on day two went on add a further 44 runs making 332 with overnight batsman Sachithra Serasinghe making 68. Bloomfield after being bowled out for 178 on day one batting a second time had the task of erasing a deficit of 154 runs, fell into deep trouble as they lost the first three wickets with only 49 runs on the board.

Though they were making steady progress with skipper Chamara Silva at the crease the home team lost wickets at regular intervals and slid to 138 for 6. A 71 run stand for the seventh wicket between Chamara and Tharanga Lakshitha proved insufficient as Bloomfield though fared better the second time was restricted to 276.

This left Tamil Union a target of 123 runs and facing just under six overs they ended the day on 16 for 2 needing a further 107 runs when play begins at 10.00 a.m. today. Roshen Silva who has been in terrific form this season made his third ton when he cracked an unbeaten 132 helping Colts resuming from their overnight score of 311 for 4 make 398 against Moors in the match played at the Colts ground.

Roshen’s knock comprised nine boundaries and two sixes and he was supported by Anuk Silva and Dilruwan Perera who made half tons. Roshen added a valuable 152 runs stand for the fifth wicket with Dilruwan. Moors in their turn was struggling on 196 for 9. Lankan CC opener Ashen Silva sent the NCC bowlers on a leather hunt at the NCC ground. Ashen was unbeaten on 135 on day one went on to make a career best 175 helping his side resuming on their overnight score of 284 for 5 to post a mammoth 424. In reply NCC was badly placed on 165 for 5.

SSC was in the box seat against Ragama CC when play stopped on the second day in the match at the SSC ground. SSC resuming on their overnight score of 31 for 1 ended the day making a massive 425 for 5 which came on the back of an unbeaten 210 by Dimuth Karunaratne which came off 285 balls inclusive of 25 boundaries and a six.

Only 45 overs of play were possible in the match between Badureliya CC and Chilaw Marians at the Surrey Village ground in Maggona with the Marians coming out on top.

Saracens SC right arm pacie Chanaka Ranaweera wrecked Panadura SC batting with impressive figures of 5 for 37 to send the home team reeling to a score of 158 on day two at the Panadura Esplanade.

Panadura SC after bowling out Saracens SC for 204 was sitting pretty on day one having made a bold reply of 115 for 3 but failed to take the initiative on day two as they lost their last seven wickets for just 43 runs.

The match at Police Park between Police SC and Air Force saw the former resuming from their overnight score of 275 for 9 making 298 and restricting their opponents to 208 for 9. The highlight of the second day’s play was the maiden ton by Prasad Kellepotha who made an unbeaten ton which had 14 boundaries. Sri Lanka Ports Authority after being in a top position of 164 for 4 collapsed to 232 in reply to Kurunegala YCC’s 270 on day two at Kurunegala while in the match at the BRC ground CCC dominated the second day’s play against BRC.

The match at Panagoda which got off to a late start saw Army resuming on their overnight score of 67 for 2 make 352 for 7 declared with Navy being made to struggle for their runs ending on 32 for 3.
