Salgado still has the say

Bata-the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year contest

Sajeewa Salgado further expanded his lead at the top of the ladder as many changes took place in the fourth week of the Bata-the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2012, which reached its fifth week. As the ongoing inter-school cricket season heats up, our most popular competition among schoolboy cricketers also ignited with the insertion of three new competitors into the top-ten list.

Salgado took the lead by a smothering margin of 1313 votes from his close rival Charith Ruchiranga of Royal Panadura. Lakshan Edirisinghe of Zahira, Angelo Jayasinghe of Maris Stella and Madhawa Fernando of Royal Panadura joined in the race in the All-Island category. Kavindu Ashan of Royal Panadura still remains at third place, as the top three remained unchanged for the fourth week.
Dishan Dissanayake of St. Joseph’s jumped to the fourth spot while new entrant, Zahirian Edirisinghe made it to the fifth position. St. Benedict’s skipper Jason Perera slid down two places to number six while new competitor Jayasinghe of Maris Stella stamped his place at No. 7.

Royal Panadura added their third player to the competition this week with the inclusion of Fernando into eighth place. In the Emerging Schools category Sasindu Perera of St. John’s Panadura made his debut to the competition by taking the lead but last week’s leader Shenal Dilanka of Piliyandala Central has all the possibilities of regaining his place. Meanwhile, the International Schools category also saw a drastic change as Lakshan Kodagoda of Gateway International took the lead from Nishan Perera of Lyceum Nugegoda who fell two places this week. Shehan Hettiarachchi of Royal Institute barged into the second spot. Readers can send in as many coupons as they wish until May 23.
