Dr. Sarath Kapuwatte tipped to be Kandy SC president

By Shamseer Jaleel

A club which is 138 years old this year and up to now the sole club to survive playing top division rugby to date will holds its Annual General Meeting today at the Club House at Nittawela.

Dr Sarath Kapuwatte is tipped to continue the vital President post once more. The Club Secretary’s position is likely to be taken over by Nihal Ratwatte with Ranjith Goonetilleke coming in as the Treasure of the club.

The Club was formed in 1874 by a group of expatriate coffee planters and others working in the plantations in and around Kandy as the Kandy Athletic, Boating, Cricket, Football and Dancing Club. The name was changed to Kandy Sports Club in 1888, when the club also started playing Hockey and Polo. The Home ground was Bogambara and was changed to Nittawela in 1949.
Saliya Kumara the former Trinitian will lead the Kandy SC side this year.
