National rugby players to commence training soon

By Shamseer Jaleel

Sri Lanka Rugby Football Team will start training very soon under N. Jayathilake. The national selectors under the Chairman Chandrishan Perera has already selected 51 players and they have been approved by the Council for the HSBC Asian Five Nations Tournament Division I which will take place in Manila, Philippines in April this year.

Secretary of the SLRFU Rizly Ilyas told the Sunday Times that for the Head Coach’s position they have already received more than 10 applications and that they would prefer to appoint Johan Taylor for this role since he had shown results two years ago in Singapore when the national team qualified for the Top division in the HSBC Asian Five Nations Tournament. I have already spoken to the Kandy SC authorities (Lasantha Wijesuriya) on this.

Rizly speaking further said: “We do not know the availability of the players for this April tour of Philippines since a few may be overseas, injured or having other issues. After finding out we may add or delete a few names.”
