Majestic Cineplex: The first 3D cinema

Majestic Cineplex, country’s first ever cinema complex with a 3D screen was opened last week making a new era in the cinema industry. Ceylon Theatres (Pvt) Limited opened a new page in the movie showing business adding three more state-of-the-art theatres of international standard on the fifth floor of the Majestic shopping complex in Colombo.

CTL with a history of over 75 years in the industry has launched a new venture which will have three new theaters with a seating capacity of 150, 50 and 170 named as ‘Ultra’, ‘Gold’ and ‘Superior’ respectively. All cinemas are equipped with the brand new 35 mm single projector along with Xenon lamp house, 3 desk platter system, latest CP 650 XO Dolby digital/ DTS processors, Crown amplifiers, JBL speakers and sub woofers with acoustically treated walls facilitating the screening of the same film in all cinemas simultaneously.

‘Superior’ cinema is equipped with the latest 35mm ‘Barco’ 3D projector for 3D movies. The tickets are priced at Rs. 600 at ‘Suprerior. ‘Gold’ where refreshments are served will be sold at Rs. 750. For normal screening tickets are priced at Rs. 400. The existing theatre with 225 seats is named ‘Platinum’ and is currently screening the Bollywood blockbuster ‘Ra-One’.

The first 3D movie to be screened at ‘Superior’ was ‘The Three Musketeers’ while ‘Hugo’ adventure drama based on Brian Selznick’s novel ‘The Invention of Hugo Canbret’. Directed by Martin Scorsese and written by John Logan, the film stars Asa Butterfield, Chloe Grace Moretz, Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen and Ray Winston. Hugo Cabret is a boy who has ended up as an orphan living a secret life in the walls of a Paris train station in the early 1030s. When Hugo encounters a broken automation, an eccentric girl and the cold reserved man who runs a toy shop, he is caught up in a fantastic adventure that could put all of his secrets in jeopardy.

The comedy movie ‘Tower Heist’ directed by Brett Ratner is now been screened at ‘Ultra’. Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphey lead an all-star cast in ‘Tower Heist’. The movie depicts how a group of hard working guys conspire to rob a high-rise residence, when they find out they’ve fallen victim to the wealthy businessman’s Ponzi scheme.Others in the cast include Mathew Broderick, Gabourey Sidibe and Casey Affleck.

Majestic Cineplex is operated under the distribution circuit of Cinema Entertainment’s (Private) Ltd, the associate company of CTL.
