The match got off to a late start and was curtailed to 39 overs. Chamara’s knock comprised 12 boundaries and half a dozen sixes and was supported by 61 by Mahela Udawatte. HNB in their turn were nowhere near the target as they were able to muster only 208.

At De Zoysa Stadium in Moratuwa an unbeaten 140 by D.K. Ranaweera saw ETI taking first lease of the wicket make a formidable 300 for 9 against Sampath Bank. Ranaweera’s knock which came off 136 balls had 12 boundaries and four sixes. Ranaweera along with Eranga Gangoda who chipped in with 66 with 15 boundaries and two sixes put on a valuable stand of 147 runs for the sixth wicket.

Defending champions Sampath Bank in their run chase put in a pathetic batting display with the exception of Kaushal Silva who made 70. The others failed to make any impression and were bowled out for 148 to give ETI their first win by 152 runs in the tournament.

Seylan Bank was restricted to 186 by John Keells in another match of the same tournament at the FTZ ground in Katunayake. John Keells in their run chase had little difficulty in reaching the target and they needed only 29.2 overs to gain an easy five wicket win.
