MDIS offers top notch opportunities for students keen on fashion and design

The Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS) is offering two exciting programmes in the discipline of Fashion (1)Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Fashion Design (2) Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Fashion Marketing & Branding .

For students wanting a lucrative career in the exiting world of fashion & design, there are two other very important opportunities to be gained by learning fashion and design at Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS)

Firstly, Singapore is a preferred location for fashions and design, drawing many creators from all over the world. It has won acclaim for the high-end fashion shows and competitions regularly held.
These shows include fashions and designs from the Western, European, Middle Eastern, Asian and Asia Pacific region. These several events give students studying fashion and design in Singapore ample top-end opportunities to understand the latest trends in the world.

This knowledge helps students to combine modernity with their own individual expressions. Singapore has also positioned itself as the shopping capital for high-end fashion, attracting tourists from across the world.

Many renowned foreign brands such as Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Paul Smith, Valentino, Prada, Donna Karan, Dolce & Gabanna, and Gianni Versace have outlets in Singapore. The presence of foreign brands has enhanced local Fashion industry standards by leaps and bound.
Secondly, MDIS collaborates with Nottingham Trent University's, School of Art and Design. This University, founded in 1843, has a world-renowned reputation for creativity, innovation and design excellence.

Ranked in the top three universities by the Higher Education Statistics Agency for the number of students successfully gaining course-related work placements, it's a well respected name.
In fact, their students recently have got the wonderful opportunity to create menswear collections aimed at high-street retailer Topman after being challenged by the company to design for its spring/summer Topman Design 2011 range.

The students have created 12 different menswear collections. Topman offers the university's fashion design students various work placement opportunities. The students will also showcase their collections during a catwalk show next month.

This highly beneficial collaboration with Trent University is a new initiative under the MDIS School of Fashion and Design which provide students with an integrated understanding of culture, context and professional practice and its relevant application within the fashion industry. Thus, MDIS graduates will acquire skills to be realistically imaginative, innovative, versatile and competitive in design and marketing which inevitably prepares them for a broad range of related employment opportunities.

BA (Hons) in Fashion Design includes: Form and Image, The Design Process, Colour in Fashion, Introduction to Design and Visual Culture, Portfolio and Product Realization, Design and Visual Culture, Research Project, Commence and Technology, Innovation, Buying and Global Sourcing, Fashion Forecasting etc. BA (Hons) in Fashion Marketing & Branding includes: Fashion and Lifestyle, Brand Environment, Marketing and Business Systems, Introduction to Design and Visual Culture, Research and Planning, Personal Projects, Implementation
