Royal Touch Rugby Fiesta on Nov.12

The "Royal College Group of '91 will be organizing their annual Touch Rugby tournament, 'Royal Touch Rugby Fiesta 2011' for the tenth consecutive time, this year. It will be held on Saturday November 12 (Saturday) at CR & FC grounds, starting at 12 noon.

The first Royal Touch Rugby Fiesta was organized in 2002 with the prime objective of bringing various groups of past students together in order to promote goodwill and togetherness.

As this is a wonderful occasion for all the old boys to get-together and also to try their hands in the most favorite sport at College, the Touch Rugby Tournament has became one of the most important rugby event in the events calendar of the Royal College Union from the first year onwards.

This year's event will be held on a grand scale as organizers plan to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Royal Rugby Fiesta. Rugby matches will start at 1.30 pm and will go on until 8.30 pm. Semi finals and the Final will be played under flood lights and the organizers are planning to make spectators witness exciting and cracking Touch Rugby throughout the evening. Around 20-25 rugby teams and 500 spectators are expected for the event.

Matches will be played under the age categories of 20-30 years (Junior Category), 31-40 Years (Mid Category) and 41 plus (senior category). Junior trophy is named as 'Summa Navarathnam Challenge Trophy'. Mid category trophy is named as 'Group of 91 Challenge Trophy'. Senior category is named as 'Senior Challenge Trophy'.

In each successive year, the organizing committee had made sure that novel items were introduced to make the event more and more attractive. In past events there have been ladies invitation matches, evening matches played under floodlights, veterans matches where ruggerites of yesteryears participated. On one earlier occasion the entire event was worked out at the Mount Lavinia Hotel beach.
There will be a special Children's entertainment area, which include Magic Shows, Face painting, Pony rides, Bouncer, Pop corn, Magic Balloons and Clowns.

There will also be competitions for ladies and children. Doctors, Paramedics and an ambulance will also be at hand throughout the event. There will also be a live band in action and DJ Music and Food stalls as well. The organizers are also planning to have an eye catching Fire Works display to make this event a colourful one.
