The unanswered question over the collapse of Building 7 on Sept. 11

By Hameed Abdul Karim

Most of those who believe the official 9-11 version do not know there was another building that collapsed on that fateful day. This is Building no 7 or the Salomon Brothers Building. On the very afternoon of 9-11 this 47 storey skyscraper came tumbling down in just 7 seconds.

Under public pressure the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) came out with a version that claimed the building collapsed due to heat generation which supposedly melted the steel structures. Later they changed the version and agreed with family members of those who died on 9-11 that the building had collapsed in a free fall which is more in line with claims of more than 1300 engineers and architects who believe the collapse of Building No.7 was due to a controlled demolition job. But there is one flaw in this report. The NIST did not attempt to explain how Building 7's free fall descent could have occurred.

One thing is certain. No plane had crashed into Building 7 and yet it collapsed in its foot print. Not even a shot was fired on it! How then did it fall? Moreover, it suffered minimal damage compared to other buildings closer to the Twin Towers. A father who lost his son in the tragedy appeared on Fox TV and said he thought the Twin Tower attack was an inside job. And he is only one of many Americans who don't buy the official narrative. According to a Zogby poll in 2006 47% of Americans did not know a thing about Building 7.

Modern day skyscrapers are designed to withstand natural calamities like earthquakes, fires or hurricanes. How come, then, a building as high as 47 storeys should collapse due to what the NIST calls an 'office fire'. Were there no precautions taken to prevent a tragedy like this from occurring? If the answer is in the negative, then shouldn't the construction company be taken to task?

The fact is that hardly anybody knows that a third building as high as a 47 storey building had collapsed on that tragic day. Shockingly, Building 7's collapse was not mentioned in the official 9-11 Commission Report. It took US government agencies seven years to conduct an investigation and issue a report on Building 7.

Why the delay? Was there a cover up? Is there a cover up? Many family members of those who perished on 9-11 along with over 1500 architects and engineers believe there is a cover-up and have signed a petition demanding an independent and international inquiry into the destruction of Building 7 specifying that it should include the possibility of explosives being used in the destruction.

According to the website 'Remember Building 7.org' 'numerous witnesses say the possibility of demolishing Building 7 was widely discussed by emergency personnel at the scene and advocated by the building's owner'.

Add to the mystery the fact that Building 7 housed US intelligence and law enforcement agencies and the NYC Office of 'Emergency Management's Emergency Operations Centre', more commonly known as "Giuliani's Bunker". Rudy Giuliani was the mayor of New York when 9-11 occurred and he had aspired to become president of the United States.

Now here's more spice to the whole of the 9-11 saga. The other day former US diplomat Joseph Wilson appeared on Al Jazeera and said the authors of the Plan for the New American Century (PNAC), which included former US Vice President Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld among others, had mentioned in the document that they needed a 'cataclysmic event like Pearl Harbour' to put the plan into action'. And lo and behold 9-11 occurred!
