In the bliss of nature

By Kevin Perera, St. Anthony’s College, Kandy

My heart is full of trouble
Why, you know it's trial
Will people really boggle?
Yes, it’s hard to bustle.

Where is my spirit of love?
Time to time had disappeared
My doom is a door of dire
Spirit of darkness appeared.

Deep within my heart I feel
Where the liberty would be
Now I know the balm I need
Dwelling in the bliss of nature it is.

A trip to Singapore

By Rubaya Inthaaj Sujatha Vidyalaya, Matara

Last school vacation we visited Singapore. In Universal Studios we saw nursery land characters like
Woody Woodpecker, Puss in Boots, Goldilocks, Fairy Godmother, Micky and Minnie Mouse.
We wore special glasses to see the 4D show. There were Shrek, Princess Fiona and donkey. They almost came to our faces. It was nothing but cool water.

In ancient Egypt there was a dark pyramid. We almost hit the wall. The wall broke and swarms of beetles surrounded us. I also drove a desert jeep. In Hollywood we saw how lightning, thunder, earthquakes and
hurricanes are set for a film.

The next day we went to Sentosa Island by cable car. In the Water World, we saw 2,500 kinds of fishes. On the beach was a show called ‘The song of the sea’. We travelled in the Birds Park in a train. There were penguins, falcons, flamingoes, swans and many more birds.

There was a waterfall, a swan lake, a pelican cove and a flamingo lake. In the Night Safari we saw many wild animals. Singapore is a clean and beautiful city. I was sorry to leave Singapore.

Rambuk-Ela

By Bilal Ahamed (Grade 6), St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy

Rambuk-Ela is a beautiful village surrounded by mountains. It is between Alawathugoda and Ankumbura in the Kandy District. Muslims, Sinhalese and a few Tamil families live there. Most of the people do business. There is a beautiful mosque and school with about 500 children.

The tea estates, beautiful forests, the paddy fields and streams are enjoyable places. Early morning we can hear birds singing, can see the rays of the rising sun peeping between trees. We can see the misty mountains and snake-like zig zag roads where vehicles are moving slowly.

It’s very enjoyable to catch fish and bathe in the streams. It’s a very natural and peaceful village where we can learn and enjoy a lot.

Grade Five Scholarship exam

By Subodhi Weerasekara (Grade 5), Mahasen Primary College, Bakamoona

I was getting ready for this exam nearly five years. During this period I learned Sinhala, Maths, Environment, English and Tamil. By learning these subjects I learned to work in time. With all this knowledge I sat for the exam last Sunday.

Average of children say that the exam is easy. I personally think that I will get high marks. But my message is, if you pass or fail in the exam do not be sad. Using your experience you study for the other exams and get high marks. Wish you all the best.
