In the opening encounter the physically fit Kazakhastan got the better of the Lankans 19-0. Last year Cup runner-up and hosts of this year’s tournament China outclassed Sri Lanka by 42-0. At the time of going to press Sri Lanka were to meet either Philippines or UAE in the Bowl Semi Finals today.

With Rugby Football included in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil lot of importance was given by the international rugby Board (IRB). Korea, Philippines, UAE, Japan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Mongolia, Kazakhastan, China and Sri Lanka participated in the men’s category.

In the women’s category China, Thailand, Kazakhastan and Hong Kong participated.
Korea are the defending Cup champions with Thailand having won the Bowl and Hong Kong defending the Plate. The next leg of Asian Qualification tournament for the 2012 Hong Kong Sevens will take place in Malaysia next month.
