Lankan ‘A’ lose grip and fall prey

A plucky eighth wicket stand of 112 runs between lower order batsmen Liam Plunkett and Mark Wood pulled Durham above danger and helped them to record an exciting two-wicket win against Sri Lanka ‘A’ on the third and final day at Riverside Ground in Durham on Friday.

Durham needing 220 to win were put on the defensive by Sri Lanka ‘A’ bowlers who gripped up with tight spells when their run chase began soon after lunch. However 14 wickets fell during the entertaining day before Durham forced a result in their favour.

Sri Lanka A 203 all out in 51.4 overs (Bhanuka Rajapaksa 20, Sachithra Serasinghe 44, Shaminda Eranga 50 n.o., Ruel Brathwaite 3/35, Chris Rushworth 2/15, Mark Wood 2/64) and 319 all out in 75.3 overs (Malinda Warnapura 35, Lahiru Thirimanne 42, Dimuth Karunaratne 42, Bhanuka Rajapaksa 36, Sachithra Serasinghe 26, Kosala Kulasekera 26, Sachithra Senanayake 48, Shaminda Eranga 45, Liam Plunkett 3/70, Scott Borthwick 2/63)

Durham 303 all out in 79.5 overs (Mark Stoneman 56, Scott Borthwick 101, Gordon Muchall 71 n.o., Gareth Breese 38, Shaminda Eranga 4/55, Sachithra Senanayake 3/60) and 222 for 8 wickets in 58.4 overs (Gordon Muchall 23, Ben Stokes 51, Liam Plunkett 65 n.o., Mark Wood 48, Shaminda Eranga 3/54, Kosala Kulasekera 2/49, Sachithra Senanayake 2/49)
