St. Nicholas' International College Colombo blessed with new shepherd

St. Nicholas' International College Colombo has been blessed yet again with the timely appointment of Rev. Fr. Chaminda Wanigasena, as its new Principal by his Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, and was accorded a warm welcome by the Chairman of the Board his Grace Most. Rev. Dr. Oswald Gomis, Emeritus Archbishop of Colombo, Rev. Fr. Neil Karunaratne C.s.s.R, Founder of the College, Mr. Srilal Nonis, Acting Principal of the College, the staff and students, as he assumed duties on June 3. This is the first time in the history of the college, that the Archbishop of Colombo has entrusted this college to the diocesan priests.

Most Rev. Dr. Oswald Gomis, Emeritus Archbishop of Colombo and Chairman of the Board hands over the Tabernacle keys of the College Chapel to the newly installed Principal Rev. Fr. Chaminda Wanigasena. The Founder of the College Rev.Fr. Neil Karunaratne C.s.s.R was also present at the installation ceremony. (Inset; the tabernacle keys)

Upon arrival they were presented a guard of honour by the College Prefects and the Guides of the 61st Company of Colombo. The Emeritus Archbishop was presented with the Tabernacle key by the head prefect of the school, Ms. Kaveendya Jayasuria, which was then handed over to the college's new principal to symbolize his primary role as chief Shepherd of the flock at St. Nicholas' College. This was followed by a concelebrated Holy Eucharist, presided over by His Grace Most. Rev. Dr. Oswald Gomis.

A general assembly was held subsequent to the mass, where Most. Rev. Dr. Oswald Gomis officially installed Rev. Fr. Chaminda Wanigasena as the new Principal. Delivering his maiden speech to the college and guests, Fr. Chaminda encouraged the teachers to join him in bringing out the best in the students and he urged the children to follow in the footsteps of the child Jesus, by being obedient while growing in knowledge and wisdom.

The assembly was followed by short fellowship for the dignitaries, followed by a staff photograph at which the staff was individually introduced to their new principal. The day's proceedings concluded with a staff meeting where Fr. Chaminda made his second college address. In it he commissioned the teachers to take up their role as good Shepherds to the children, protecting the flock and nourishing them with wisdom. He also emphasized on unity within the school family so that children may be provided with a sound education. Today the staff and students of St Nicholas' International College feel blessed to have Rev. Fr. Chaminda Wanigasena as their new administrating director, guiding the flock to greener pastures.
