Wedding memories

There will be many little moments that you will remember about your wedding day. The Mirror this week in its third installment of ‘Down the Aisle’ speaks to a few couples about their special moments.

Imagine, forty years down, your spouse and yourself grey and pruney, dipping biscuits in your tea and reminiscing about the old times. You think back to your wedding day and it isn’t the intricately designed invites or the table centre-pieces that will ring through your memory. No, what will tickle the two of you almost knocking over your teacups, may well be something unexpected.

Adding some levity to the humdrum ceremony, some might be hilarious and while others embarrassing. Mirror Magazine interviewed some couples who have had some of the most memorable wedding moments.

Sanduni Morais who has been married for about a year, recalls an unexpected photoshoot in the most unlikeliest of places. “After the mass on our way to the hotel, Ashan [the groomsman] made us get off at this garbage site and pose for photos, veil flying in the air”, she says, adding “We still have the pictures and laugh every time we look at them.”

Married for five years to date, Randi Ranasinghe vividly remembers a part of her wedding day. “While practicing for our dance over and over again, Kalana [the husband] use to always complain saying if it were one of Chinthy’s songs we could really make some moves than dancing ballroom.

There was a real popular hit sung by Chinthy back in 2006 called ‘Sangeetha Wade’ and that is the song he was talking about. So when it was time for our first dance as husband and wife, we started dancing the practiced steps and then suddenly the music stopped and Chinthy started playing. The bridesmaids had planned a little surprise. So we went along with it and danced like mad.”

Around year back the best-man at Leah’s wedding had something more discreet planned. As he helped the oblivious groom prepare for the marital ceremony. Describing the rag, Leah elaborates saying “While helping him [her husband] get organised his friend that pasted the stickers “Please” and “Help” on the sole of each shoe”. When her husband knelt at the altar, a silent plea for help was visible to all the guests seated behind the couple. “We found out about it when the photographer showed us the picture during the group shoot.”
