Funday Times - A Poem for the week

Humankind the terminator

By Vinu Wijeratne, Girls' High School, Kandy

It’s time for me to awaken my voice,
And imply about my critical state,
I’m subjected to wear and tear,
Demolished until I’m bare,
By excruciating deeds lacking care.

Unscrupulous men with avaricious hearts,
Devastate me using their lethal thoughts,
Murdering nature and all its elements,
Causing disruptive setbacks by creating a massacre.

Flora is destroyed and buildings are built,
Fauna becomes extinct while
materialism is increased,
Devious acts in the name of development,
Increase calamities while man suicides himself.

Alas! My plea is not answered,
While man shatters me,
Mother Nature, creating hassle,
Apprehension and blood lust will someday rupture,
But then man’s end would be quite near.
