Janaki appointed to World Bank committee on agriculture finance

Janaki Kuruppu, chairperson of the Regional Development Bank (RDB) and advisor to the government on food security, was recently appointed to the 8-eight member global steering committee of AgriFin set up by the World Bank to provide financing for agriculture, particularly smallholder farmers.

The AgriFin steering committee has been set up by the Bank and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Ms. Kuruppu has spent long years in the private sector where she has held positions such as director at Commercial Bank PLC, Sathosa, Cargills Ceylon PLC and Managing Director of the Nielsen Company.
A statement from the President’s Office said she will continue to serve the RDB as its chairperson. She holds an MA in applied statistics and a BSc in mathematics from the University of Missouri, USA and from the University of Colombo.
