Skipper Jeewan Mendis slams career best 205

Tamil Union skipper Jeewan Mendis hit his best innings of his cricketing career when he slammed a career best knock of 205 against Ragama CC on day two in their Premier Tier ‘A’ encounter at the P. Sara Stadium.

SSC too massacred the hapless Lankan CC bowlers in their match at the SSC ground when they too resuming on their overnight score of 403 for 7 went on to make 500 for 9 before declaring. SSC’s massive score came on the back of a fine 166 by Bhanuka Rajapakse and half tons coming from skipper Kaushal Silva and Dhammika Prasad.

Bhanuka’s knock made in just 168 balls comprised 18 boundaries and four sixes and he was also involved in two century stands which were 120 for the fourth wicket with skipper Kaushal Silva who made 82 with nine boundaries and the other of 103 for the seventh wicket with Dhammika Prasad. Later in the day SSC had Lankan CC struggling for survival as they ended day two making 197 for 8. Colts also went on a scoring spree when they amassed 404 against Chilaw Marians. The first day’s play saw Colts spearheaded by skipper Malinda Warnapura who made 131 with support coming from Roshen Silva who cracked a 109 make 359 for 6.

Skipper Kosala Kulasekera and Angelo Perera put on a partnership of 133 runs for the sixth wicket to put NCC on top against Badureliya CC at the end of the second days in the match played at the NCC ground.

At the CCC ground despite a 111 runs stand for the third wicket between Dhanushka Gunatileke and Gamini Chnadrakumara CCC conceded a first inning lead to Saracens SC. CCC in reply to Saracens SC’s score of 255 resuming from their overnight score of 3 for 2 were bowled out for 191.
