SLPL will have top internationals in the fray

By S.R. Pathiravithana

The Sri Lanka Provincial League T-20 Tournament will be staged on a grand scale this year with a host of leading international players on stage from 18 July to August 4 this year. Sri Lanka Cricket will host this tournament with Somerset Entertainment Ventures – a Singapore based Promotion Company.

“So far there are some well known names being bartered and some of the names include Australian pace ace Shaun Tate, New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori, Darren and Dwyane Bravo from the West Indies, former Australia international Andrew Symonds, Ryan Ten Desecrator from the Netherlands and India’s Yuvraj Singh who became the man of the Tournament at this year’s ICC Cricket World Cup” said a SLC spokesman speaking to the Sunday Times.

There is a likelihood of some Pakistani players who were snubbed by the on going Indian Premier League joining the fray, yet it is still in the speculative stage. However the spokesman added that there will be 24 matches played in the tournament with two matches per day. All matches will be played at the Khettarama Stadium.

It is also understood that the contract slabs would be from $30,000 and under. A plus factor for this tournament would be that most of the international players would be free barring the Indian Cricketers who will be engaged in the FTP tour against England, in England.
